Karin Kneffel
Karin Kneffel, born in Marl in 1957, uses her technical mastery to place everyday motifs in contexts that reflect and question our reality. She has received numerous art awards and has exhibited in important museums in Germany and abroad. A former student of Gerhard Richter, she has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Since 2013, her work has been exhibited by Larry Gagosian, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the art world and the most powerful art dealer. Kneffel lives and works in Düsseldorf.
In this PArt edition, Karin Kneffel turns her gaze to Switzerland, drawing on memories of her own childhood. She first expressed this perspective in an early series of watercolours, and four screen prints from this series form the basis of the edition. Alongside depictions of groups of men in the mountains and skiers, Kneffel has expanded the series to include apples, one of her iconic fruit motifs.
